Working Precariously - Collective Zine from Cultural Workers

Hello!

I am working on a masters thesis investigating alternative ways of confronting precarious positions in the art, culture, and creative industries. I am looking at ways and methods art education can improve internships/traineeships, low paid labor in the art, cultural, and creative industries for both the people conducting the labor and the people receiving the labor (organizations).

  1. This survey takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes to complete. Many parts are in multiple choice or check boxes to be the most efficient with your time.

  2. This zine has the deadline of 20.7.25 resulting in one or two A3 issues. If less submissions are received it will result in one A3 zine and vice versa (more responses = more zine issues). Issues will be distributed in Copenhagen in early August and distributed in Helsinki and Imatra in late August.

  3. This survey's results will result in a printed zine printed in Copenhagen and Helsinki and most likely exhibited in Helsinki and Imatra. This project offers no fees or materials for participation, this project is purely out of interest to publicize and create transparency around experiences with precarious labor in the creative industries and has a low budget.

  4. The printed zine collects testimonial, advice, resources, solutions, complaints, wishes, dreams, for the creative industries. Including demands to our bosses, funding bodies, universities, governments, the unemployment office, and other institutions. I hope this zine can also become a collective imagining for an alternative future in our industry.

  5. Key words for this project are:

    1. Precarity, cruel optimism, alternative economies, community economies, diverse economies, Nordic art education, collective action, mutual aid, learning-by-doing, subverting neoliberal logics , community building, skills sharing, public art, collaborative practices... +

  6. You may choose to remain anonymous or you may choose to be credited by name.

This survey asks multiple choice questions to prompt you to consider what were the circumstance of your position that will help develop a text you will write to be included in the zine.
